Adding background layers to a Map

I have a point map and want to add background polygons like customer services areas.  Is this possible?  Note: when adding the additional layer i want to be able to retain selection/filter from points.  I was wondering if there was a way to add background layers other than adding additional layers from the map config.

  Hi Jonathan,
  
  We don't have a concept of background layers or layer groups yet, so if a background layer is needed, a new layer should be added 
  
  

  and then moved under the point layer 
  
  In this configuration, the points will be drawn over the polygons, effectively designating the newly added layer as a 'background layer'.
  
  The additional layer will be filtered using the dashboard cross filter, and the newly added map filters ( right now the old select filters are cleared when on a map a layer is added, deleted).
