Product Update
HEAVY.AI v8.0, released in May, continues to bring enhancements to the HEAVY.AI platform. The following updates have been made:
- Support for table and column metadata in SQL.
- Improved support for raster and multidimensional array datasets, including adding raster support to HeavyConnect, with the option to link to them on-the-fly, as needed
- Changed the internal storage of rasters to use a tile-oriented approach aligned with fragments. This lowers memory requirements and improves performance by allowing fragment skipping.
- Continued use of unified syntax for raster and vector processing, that makes use of raster data significantly easier than on systems with entirely different internal languages for raster and vector data processing.
This release requires an updated license key for all customers. To request a new license key, please use this request form.

In recent months, there has been heightened attention on critical infrastructure in the United States, particularly on the aging bridges nationwide, highlighted by the recent collapse in Baltimore, MD. In collaboration with Replica and Alta Planning+Design, HEAVY.AI has conducted a thorough examination of the Hennepin Avenue Bridge in Minnesota.
Read more about the project in this collaborative blog post and attend a webinar where you can participate in a discussion on how you can do this type of analysis for your organization.

Name: Jonathan Pollack
Organization: City of Glendale, AZ
Role: Enterprise GIS Manager
How has the HEAVY.AI platform helped you drive efficiencies / improvements for your organization? HEAVY.AI has allowed us to perform analyses and reporting that were previously un-doable due to the large nature of the input data. Our current GIS dashboarding tools max out at about 400,000 records. HEAVY.AI easily handles the 20,000,000+ records for our reporting needs. Before HEAVY.AI, we could only provide best guesses or estimates in response to queries. We can now accurately and quickly provide answers to spatial queries (e.g. “how much activity has happened in my neighborhood”) and individual/team performance (“how has response been to specific incident types”).
